Making Greatness Happen
Since 1978, the Women's League for Minority Education has provided scholarships and mentored more than 405 exemplary high school students in Coatesville and other areas of Chester County, Pennsylvania who demonstrate a high potential for success.
All students who are recipients of our scholarships and other educational support have gone on to complete college. All are a source of pride for their families and are making positive contributions to their communities.
Many have returned to our Coatesville community and are using their education and expertise to serve as high school administrators, teachers, lawyers, mentors, ministers, training consultants, chemists, registered nurses and other professions.
As Founder and Executive Director, Sandra F. Simmons is a true visionary who is committed to our children, our families and our communities. She and a group of nine women, who are all sensitive to the multitude of educational needs of minorities, founded the Women's League for Minority Education.
These Charter Members created a lasting legacy: Sandra F. Simmons, Anna Clark-Carter, Brenda Coleman, Ella Dixon, Jane Fowlkes, Lucille Kenny, Dorothy Kidd, Johnnie Mathis, Margo Robinson, Judith R. Williams and Gertrude Woods.
